A Scent Synthesise a Squeaky Sound - CHUN CHANG Solo Exhibition 張群個展

Introduction

這個下午，在吃完午餐後，他感到疲倦，便在書桌上睡著了。
當他醒來時（感覺就像被包裹在一個繭中），他感受到房間充斥著死一般的寂靜。
他可以感覺到微風吹動著窗簾，但聽不到任何聲音。
就在同一刻，他意識到一件事。
他記不起自己最後一次置身於如此絕對寂靜的時刻是什麼時候了。
他總是忙著用聲音填滿空間。

對話和音樂一直伴隨著他。
但有些地方你必須保持安靜。
對於這些情況，他試圖專注於背景中隱藏的聲音。
無論那些地方多麼寧靜，如果集中注意力，總是能聽到來自其他地方的零碎交談聲，或微弱的電子設備嗡鳴聲。
在最糟糕的情況下，他會用食指搔搔耳朵。
這不會打擾任何人，而他得到了平靜。

他記得在古代中國神話中，女媧是人類的創造者。
她用融化的石頭修補了天柱。
石頭怎麼會融化呢？
等他長大後，他意識到那是岩漿。

他對神話中隱藏的科學事實感到有趣。
也許聲音就是他的石頭，他趴在桌子上想著：
"那其他人用什麼東西填補他們的缺口呢？"

This afternoon, after lunch, he felt tired. He fell asleep at his desk.
When he wakes up (it is like being wrapped in a cocoon), he feels the room is in a state of deadly silence.
A breeze, the curtain moving. He can feel both but hears no sound.
And just at that same moment, he realises one thing.
He cannot remember when the last time was he had been in a moment of such absolute silence.
He is always busy filling up space with sound.

Conversation and music are his constant companions.
But there are some places where you have to keep your voice down.
For these cases, he tries to focus on the sounds hidden in the background.
No matter how quiet those places are, if he pays enough attention, he can always hear some broken chatter from another place, or the faint buzzing sound of an electronic device.
In the worst of cases, he will scratch his ear with an index finger.
It does not disturb anyone, and he is at peace.

He remembers that in ancient Chinese mythology, Nuwa is the creator of mankind.
She repaired the pillar of heaven with melted stone.
How can someone melt stone? He wonders.
When he got older, he realised that it is lava.

He was amused by the scientific fact hiding in mythology.
Maybe the sound is his stone, he bends over on the desk and thinks:
"What kind of things do other people use to fix their lacuna?”
