HSUAN YA LIAO

HSUAN YA LIAO’s artistic endeavors are primarily crafted with the delicate touch of porcelain clay and glazed finishes. Drawing inspiration from the realms of faith and commemoration, her creative journey centers around the appropriation of traditional temple imagery and ornamentation. Interweaving these elements with folk beliefs associated with the twelve zodiac animals, each linked to the respective year of an individual's birth, she imparts a distinctiveness to her works by embodying personal attributes through tangible forms.

Beyond this, HSUAN YA LIAO introduces an innovative twist by incorporating the cat, a creature absent from the conventional Chinese zodiac. This inclusion serves to forge new realms of memory and imagination, aspiring to breathe life into a mythology that transcends established narratives. Through the sculpting of deities, she not only shapes forms but also reinterprets the essence of materialism, worship objects, and spiritual beliefs in the context of contemporary human society. In this manner, she gives rise to an alternative aesthetic, molding a fresh perspective on the intersection of materiality, devotion, and spiritual faith in our modern world.
